POST 3: MOVIES AND/OR SERIES THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND

Today I'm going to recommend a serie called POSE, which has become very popular due to Netflix, it is a television series about the marginal life of black and Latin people from the lgbti+ community located in the New York 80s. The series takes place in the underground ballroom scene, where its characters develop within the so-called "houses" as dancers or models and compete for trophies.

Created by Ryan Murphy, producer of series such as American Horror Story, in conjunction with other producers the series premiered on June 3, 2018. One of the things that I consider important of the show is that it has a cast of both actors and producers that is focused on the inclusion of women, black people and the lgbti community.

The story begins with the main character Bianca, who belongs to one of the most recognized Houses of the Ballroom environment The house of Abundance, whose mother is Elektra who has a very strong character, which makes Bianca realize that she wants to get away from her and create her own house welcoming in it two disciples: Angel, a young woman who turns to prostitution and Damon, a gay boy who runs away from home to pursue a career as a dancer in the big city.

the first season flows in that environment between house's drama and issues such as prostitution or discrimination suffered by the characters. While the second season takes place in the late 80s and early 90s, dealing with topics such as the emergence of Vogue from the hand of Madonna and how an opening to the world of ballrooms and gay community is generated, and the other important issue is HIV or AIDS, which in those years was devastating for the people of the community and also for the characters of the series.

I recommend you to watch it, because I think it is a series that is very well done in terms of the relationship between the characters that many times can go through a bit sad situations but that nevertheless rescues the joy and solidarity within the ballroom and the community itself. It also acts as an instrument to learn about LGBTI + history and how the community has been forged and has gone through multiple problems. Although the series is based on the 80s, we know that many of the struggles that the characters go through and throw are those that continue to live to this day.

I leave you one of my favorite scenes to motivate you!
